Open House - and new VLS China Program

The Admissions Open House on Saturday was fantastic.  We had about 50 excited participants, maybe they were so energetic from the crisp autumn weather!  The session topics included a mock first year class – can being drunk excuse criminal behavior???? No conclusions were reached, you have to enroll in Prof. Duthu’s criminal law class to get all the answers.

The highlight of the day was Senator Leahy’s speech on Fear, Freedom and the Rule of Law.  He talked about how we can never give up our rights as Americans, even in times of war and terrorism.

Everyone on campus is excited about the new China program.  If you haven’t taken time to read the press release on the front page of the website, it is worth reading.  The purpose of the program is for VLS students and faculty to work with the students and faculty of law schools in the Guangdong Province to address environmental laws and policies, proposing solutions to environmental problems of mutual concern.

I’m not going to talk about football any more.  Georgia has lost their last two games.  Oh well, as with the Braves, there is always next year . . .

Leaf season is over, all the leaves are falling – or have fallen – from the trees.  Why is shuffling through piles of leaves so much fun?  It was one fall pastime I truly missed all my years in Florida.  Vermont has more than enough leaves to make up for lost time!

Shuffle, shuffle before the snow falls !!

Open House Update, Fall - and Football

First things first – Georgia beat Ole Miss 14 – 9.  The quarterback situation is still a bit iffy, but the season is now 5 – 0.  GO DAWGS.

This past Saturday was the LSAT administration.  VLS is an LSAT site, we had about 70 “cheerful” souls on campus bright and early in the morning.  It went very well, as always.  VLS is ranked the 5th best LSAT test site in the country (over 360 sites) by Kaplan Test Prep participants.

Saturday afternoon, hubby, dog and I went for a drive through the mountains to “leaf peep”.  We had planned to go last weekend, but it rained, again.  The views were magnificent.  According to the experts, we haven’t peaked yet, but I can’t imagine much more color than we have right now.  On the way home we stopped in a country store for creamees – that’s soft-serve ice cream to everyone else.  We had maple, dog had vanilla – very tasty!

Now for the real news:  Saturday, Oct. 14th is a huge day on campus.  We have the Admissions Open House (see the Admissions page on the web for the schedule and details).  At the same time, the new Environmental Law Center is being dedicated.  We are very excited to report that the guest speaker for both events is Senator Patrick Leahy.  We are coordinating the day so that everyone on campus will be included when he makes his speech.  The topic has not been announced, but it will have something to do with global terrorism.
Vermont politics are in full swing.  The senate campaign is extremely “political” between Congressman Bernie Sanders and area businessman Richard Tarrant.  Vermont Law School is hosting a debate on Tuesday evening, October 17th and it is open to the public.  I don’t know the exact time, it will be posted on the front page of the VLS website.

I hit the road this week, first in South Carolina and then New Mexico.  Clancy, Lia, Sara, Jen and Nancy are also “out and about” talking with prospective applicants.  Stop by our tables and say hello; we look forward to meeting you.
