VLS at COP16 in Cancun, Mexico

Today is the first day of the international climate change negotiations in Cancun, Mexico, known as COP16.  Professor Kat Garvey and 3L Daniel Miller will be representing Vermont Law School at these climate talks.  Building on the groundwork laid by the delegation of VLS faculty and students who traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark for COP15 last year, this year’s smaller delegation will have plenty to do.
Kat Garvey brings her interest in learning more from delegates from Latin American countries who, like Vermont, have significant greenhouse gas emissions coming from land use, agriculture, and forestry.
Dan Miller will be focusing on financing mechanisms for adaptation and mitigation, with an emphasis on the role of the United Nations Development Programme.  His participation in the climate talks is tied directly to the paper he is writing for Professor Betsy Baker’s seminar on The Law of International Organizations.
