Happenings at VLS and in VT

There is a lot happening this month on campus and in the state of Vermont!

VT Health Care Bill

“Vermont takes first steps towards universal, unified health care…” reports Royalton/Tunbridge State Representative Sara Buxton ’10. As always, the state of Vermont is on the leading edge of the issues facing our nation.  Bill H.202 passed the House 92-49 and now moves onto the Senate. VT Supreme Court

Each year the VT Supreme Court holds a session at Vermont Law School in the Oakes Hall Court Room. This highly anticipated event provides insight for our students to hear appellate level arguments. It also provides experiential learning which augments the classroom experience.

Agriculture, Sustainable Food Systems, Planning, Regulation, and Law!

For those interested in food and agriculture, this week VLS is hosting an informal discussion with Josh Schwartz, Executive Director of the Mad River Planning District and Pat O’Neill, Programming Director of the Composting Association of Vermont. The event plans to explore how municipalities can incorporate commercial composters and other innovate agricultural enterprises which currently fall outside the existing state-level regulator framework into local land use regulations. This topic – regulatory oversight of commercial composting operations – is a very active legislative discussion in the VT statehouse.

The event titled, “Fostering a Regulator Process to Support Innovative Agriculture Enterprises,” is being held on March 29th in the Map Room from 12:45-2pm.
