US News Rankings

I am pleased to report that this year marks a breakthrough in the breadth of recognition of our programs as demonstrated by the US News survey.

The 2013 Best Grad Schools rankings were released by US News today.

VLS placed among the nation’s top programs in a number of areas, environmental  law (rank 1st), dispute resolution (rank 16th), clinical training (rank 23rd), law schools where law firms tend to recruit (rank 96th–out of more than 200). Thanks goes to the department leaders at VLS who have made this possible including John Echeverria, Marc Mihaly, Jim May, Teresa Clemmer, Margaret Barry, Liz Ryan Cole and Sean Nolon. Scores of exceptional faculty, both full time and adjunct work under the leadership of this group to assure that every student receives exceptional training.

The entire VLS community is proud of this continued recognition of our ADR, clinical and environmental faculty and programs. The dedication of our faculty, students and alumni has made them global leaders in teaching, scholarship and professional achievement, and VLS’s innovative programs continue to break new ground in legal education.

Our success as a place to learn law and policy is enhanced by our unique structure of clinics, institutes, centers and off-campus experiential programs. Our joint programs with Yale, Cambridge, Dartmouth, Renmin, Thunderbird and Cergy-Pontoise allow our students to use the world’s greatest universities to supplement what they find on our campus. Our incredible alumni network at the World Bank, the United Nations, on Capitol Hill and at leading law firms and NGOs open opportunities for our students and graduates which are compelling.

Employer recognition of the excellence of VLS’s graduates reflects the exceptional preparation in writing, speaking, clinical training, and critical thinking that takes place at Vermont Law School.
